Annie Ruth Smith Ragans was born the first daughter of the late Annie Eunice Smith and JC Caple on December 12, 1948. Her early life was spent in Clio, AL. She graduated from Clio Public High School in 1967. She later attended the Trenholm Technical College in Montgomery.
She married Levester Ragans Senior on September 2, 1972. They have one son, Levester Ragans, Jr.
In the early 1970s, she moved to Canton, OH. She lived and worked in Canton for many years until her retirement from Republic Steel. While there, she was active in her community, serving as a Den Mother and later volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America. She also served diligently in the Greater Peace Baptist Church. In 2000, Ruth returned home to Clio, and her membership at Big Creek Baptist Church. She was active in the church and the community until her health began to fail. She was a faithful friend often visiting the sick and shut in. She was a deeply involved in the lives of her extended family, often volunteering to babysit for parents to work, attending school programs and going on school trips and doctor’s appointments.
Our sister Ruth was set free from earthly bondage on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the home of Melvin and Joyce Jones. She was attended by her son, Levester and her brother-in-law, Melvin.
She leaves to cherish her memory:one son Levester Ragans Jr.; Four Sisters Joyce (Melvin) Jones of Clio, Lura Coleman of Dothan, AL;Shirley (Andre)McClendon of Clio, and Sherry Kennedy of Harrisburg, PA. Three Brothers: Joel Smith, Earvin Smith both of Clio, and Lawrence Lee Foxx, Jr. of Canton, OH. Her husband, Levester Ragans, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
