Sister Willie Dean Crittendon

April 21, 1952 ~ December 18, 2018 (age 66)


Willie Dean Crittendon (66 years) was born in Barbour County Al on April 21, 1952 to Artis James McKinnon (21 years), a farmer, and Lucinda Fryer (22years). Barbour County, AL.  She was the oldest girl and had 6 brothers (Robert Lewis Fryer, Otis James McKinnon, Charlie C. McKinnon, Denis McKinnon, Luther Dean McKinnon, Wade Miller) and 3 sisters (Elain Covington, Nettie Lee McKinnon, Angelus Thorton).


Dean was educated at DA Smith Middle School from the 3rd to the 11th grades. It was a segregated all African -American school at the time. Dean also worked as a house keeper for the Bright family of Ozark AL.


At 17, she left home to attend Job Corps and graduated as a certified Seamstress.


Upon returning home, at 18, Willie Dean began her adult working career at the White Knight and Van Huesen Clothing Factories in Ozark, AL.


At 19 years old she met and married Alter Lee (Ali) Crittendon Sr. (19).  She gave birth to four children: Alter Lee Crittenden, Jr., Alan Lorenzo Crittendon, Angel Lasha Crittendon and Andra Lametris Crittendon.


Upon closure of clothing factories in Ozark, Dean worked as a cook at Mixon Elementary School and enjoyed keeping an eye on her children who attended the school at the time.


Her last occupation was in hotel hospitality before she retired.


She is predeceased by her parents; Artis James McKinnon and Lucinda Fryer-McKinnon-Miller, step father; Wyatt Miller, three brothers; Otis James McKinnon, Charlie C. McKinnon and Denis McKinnon and sister; Nettie Lee McKinnon.


She is survived by her (former) husband, Alter Lee Crittendon Sr.(Ozark, AL), her four children, Alter Lee Crittenden, Jr./Cornelia Ann (Killen, TX), Alan Lorenzo Crittendon (Wakulla, FL), Angel Lasha Crittendon (Selma, AL) and Andra Liametric Crittendon (Ozark, AL), two brothers Robert Lewis Fryer (Abbeville, AL) and Luther Dean McKinnon(Ozark, AL), two sisters (Elain Covington (Ozark, AL) and Angelus Thorton (Gainesville, FL) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
