Johnny McCray was born on September 25, 1963, to Dora Pearl McCray and Wilburn Capell Sr. in Barbour County. He was called home on July 27, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia surrounded by family.
Johnny accepted the Lord Jesus Christ early in life at Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He was the “singing bird” of the family and his spirit was bigger than life itself. He was a true University of Auburn fan who didn’t mind yelling “War Eagle” at an Alabama fan.

Johnny leaves to cherish his loving memories to his wife, Mary Nell Banks- McCray; three daughters, Johnny Denise McCray, Sharon McCray, and Charlene McCray; one son, Johnny “Boy Boy” McCray; four step-children, Tonya Banks, Michael Banks, Sherwin (Mateshqua) Walker, and Sateria (Reggie) Jett; three brothers, Andrew (Mae) McCray, Billy McCray, and Wilburn (Kathryn) Capell Jr; two sisters, Lula Murl (Terry) Thornton, and Brenda Bennett (Andra Lindsey); along with a host of relatives and friends.
Special nieces and nephews, Shana Foster, Terry McCray, Dorette A. Thornton, Stacy Fryer Jr., and Stephon Fryer.
