Mother Ruby Nell Tellis

Mrs. Ruby Nell Tellis was born December 2, 1954, in Ozark, Alabama to the late Namen Crittenden and Sallie Mae Mixon of Ozark, Alabama. 

She attended D.A. Smith School and joined St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church of Ozark, Alabama.  She was on the Steward Board, a Trustee, taught Sunday School, sang in the Voices of Zion Choir, was a member of W.H.O.M.S., Life Member of the Missionary Society, a member of the Lay Council, a member of the Christian Education Department and a member of the culinary committee.  She worked faithfully in her church until her health declined.  

Mrs. Ruby Nell was well known for her special sense of fashion. When she STEPPED, she STEPPED!  She loved shopping and selling Mary Kay cosmetics. She was loved by everyone and enjoyed sitting outside in her yard, with her pocketbook nearby…lol!  She also loved flowers and Mr. Grady always made sure their yard was well kept. Her kind heart and humble spirit will truly be missed. 

Mrs. Ruby Nell Tellis passed peacefully from this life on the morning of May 5th, 2024. She was surrounded and supported by her loving and caring family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sallie Mae Mixon; her father, Namen Crittenden; her sister, Mary Mixon; brothers, Eugene and Jimmy Mixon and her daughter, Felisha Ann Tellis.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Her husband of 45 years, Grady Lee Tellis-Ozark, Alabama; 3 daughters- Tonya Mixon, Quwanda Shipman and Sharonda Tellis- Ozark, AL.; 2 sons-Otis Shipman and Grady Lee Tellis, Jr- Ozark, AL.; 28 grandchildren-Kevin Mixon, Khia Tellis, Jakerria Tellis, Dedrick McClendon, Alexis Grider, Dedric Dean, Chance Shipman, Chase Shipman, Harmon Shipman, Orion Shipman, Dailin Lewis, Mercedes Shipman, O’Tiesha Shipman, Zy’nyria Hines, Anastasia Hines, Ta’leigha Hines, Laquita Mckinney, Myia Coleman, Yasmine Coleman, Chioma Williams, Cai Williams, Josiah Bonds, Syniah Caldwell, Isaiah Johnson, Kaliyah Lawson, Jeremiah Guice, Nyah Bhola and Robert Smith; 12 Great-grandchildren-Aria McClendon, Kyler McClendon, Armani McClendon, Journee McClendon, Layzria McKinney, Xaxion McKinney, Jayce McKinney, Keon McKinney, Caleb McKinney, Smair Coleman, Zayrion Coleman, and Ya’Syiah Tellis. She also leaves behind a host of cousins and two special friends, Legail Mcleod and Red Stewart; a special adopted grandchild, Victoria Smith; and a very special granddaughter, Jade Caldwell.
