Debra Ann Young Passed away peacefully March 27,2024 at her residence in Andalusia AL. Debra Ann Young was born to Moses Young and Georgie Mae Young in New Orleans, Louisiana. Growing up with a book always in hand led her to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at California State University, Fullerton. Upon graduating from Assumption High School in Napoleonville, Louisiana. Debra called many places in Europe and various parts of the United States home and traveled to Germany, China, Japan, and the Caribbean. She was a long-time Long Beach, California resident before moving to Andalusia, Alabama in 2017.
She spent a considerable amount of time with her head in the clouds of imaginary worlds, writing fantasy, science fiction, and horror. In her lifelong career as a writer she contributed to a variety of writing communities, made many writer friends along the way, and won several National Novel Writing Month awards. Her final completed work, Break to You, co-authored with Neal Shusterman and Michelle Knowlden, will be published July 2024.
Outside of her extensive writing career, Debra also worked in real estate and life insurance. She loved cats and owned many over the course of her life. Her friends will remember her warmth, generosity, cheerful nature, and great imagination. Her family will remember her humor, fierce independence, love of travel, and her ability to make even the most ordinary occasions very special.
Debra is survived by her two brothers, three sisters, many nieces and nephews, and her cats Isabelle and Loki.
